If you’re raising a newborn, toddler, child or teenager with a former partner, there are a few strategies you can keep in mind to help ensure the process goes as smoothly as possible.
Co-parent is a term used to describe two adults involved in raising their children following a separation or divorce. Typically, the use of the word ‘co-parents’ indicates the two play an equally active role rather than one taking on the bulk of the responsibilities.
Co-parenting in the face of a relationship breakdown can be difficult, and it’s often tricky to get the practicalities of this arrangement down pat. While it is not always easy to establish a co-parenting rhythm, many experts suggest that having both parents involved in a child’s life can be of great benefit to their well-being, meaning it can be well worth the effort.
From a practical standpoint, co-parenting often works best by establishing a plan that addresses your child’s needs, which will differ depending on their age.
The plan can cover the following:
The key to co-parenting is communication. Raising kids is hard work at the best of times, let alone when you’re doing so with a former partner. Many co-parents find that introducing a mediator into the arrangements, like a family dispute resolution practitioner or a relationship counsellor, can help keep communication channels open and friendly.
Co-parenting a newborn comes with additional challenges, given the unique needs of a young bub. Newborns are quick to form attachments, so you want to ensure your little one has equal time with both parents to help create healthy relationships.
If your child hasn’t been born yet and you already know you will be co-parenting, now is the time to start having these important discussions about how the parenting arrangement is going to work. Things that you will need to consider include feeding schedules, visitation hours, and how both parents will ensure their home is a safe and welcoming environment for the baby.
Small things, like making sure you have all the essentials to keep you and your child happy, healthy, and clean (including a Spewy™ and bed mat!), will go a long way to providing a sense of continuity across two separate homes.
Co-parenting is a journey. While you’ll no doubt make mistakes along the way, focus on learning from them and always making the happiness and health of your kids the top priority.
When you’re a parent, no two days are the same. Flexibility is certainly important, even more so when you’re co-parenting and will have to adapt quickly to changing circumstances. Being too rigid or inflexible is a trap that is easy to fall into and, ultimately, doesn’t help anyone.
Co-parents will also need to accept that their child’s other parent will likely have a different parenting style. This is particularly true as your kid gets a little older, and more decisions need to be made about things like bedtime and what’s in their school lunchbox.
Finally, co-parents should avoid a situation where their child feels like there’s strong animosity between them and their ex-partner. This can be difficult to achieve, but the last thing you want is for your kids to feel like they’re stuck in the middle of an unpleasant relationship.
Parenting comes with its ups and downs — by simply acknowledging this and recognising challenging circumstances for what they are, the ebbs and flows can be a little easier to navigate.

One of the most popular ways to start incorporating a wider variety of foods into your baby's diet is Baby Led Weaning. If you want your little one to develop initiative and a positive relationship with food, Baby Led Weaning could be the answer.
Continue reading to learn more about this strategy (plus why it's best undertaken with a Spewy™ or two by your side!)
Baby Led Weaning (BLW) is an approach to introducing solid foods to babies that avoids spoon feeding and encourages your little one to get involved in the process.
Instead of spoon-feeding purees and mashed food, BLW allows parents to provide their baby with soft finger food that can be picked up, grasped, and explored independently. As your baby develops the necessary skills of chewing, sucking, and swallowing with this hands-on approach, the variety of solid foods can be increased.
In addition to allowing for more available mealtime options, Baby Led Weaning has been found to have some benefits, including improved oral coordination and dexterity in children.
BLW is invaluable for any mum or dad looking to encourage their little one to grow into a confident eater.
No two babies are alike. One six-month-old might instantly take to solid foods, while another expresses a fair level of reluctance.
It's important not to push your little one to experiment with food before they're ready. However, there are a few strategies you can incorporate to help your baby understand what solid foods are and begin exploring at their own pace.
Even if your baby takes to solid food like a duck to water, breastmilk and formula contain important nutrients they need for their development and well-being. Continue to provide milk alongside new and exciting solid foods.
As a parent, you can have a considerable impact on your child's relationship with food. One way to increase the likelihood that they develop an adventurous palette is to introduce as wide a variety of foods as possible early on in their life.
Try different flavours, colours, and textures (within reason — raw carrots aren't likely to go down too well!) and encourage your little one to really explore what's on their plate.
As your baby grows into a toddler, child, teenager, and adult, meal time time will represent the opportunity to sit down and connect as a family. The concept of eating as a social event can be introduced when they are as young as six months, helping them form a connection between food and family.
For a baby, being introduced to new textures of food can be seen as an opportunity to get a little messy. They also might find that certain foods don't agree with their tummies.
In both cases, keeping a Spewy™ close at hand makes cleaning up a breeze. With its super absorbent properties, waterproof backing and machine-washable nature, the Spewy™ is an essential addition to your BLW arsenal of tools.
With the goal of helping babies gain independence by feeding themselves, Baby Led Weaning (BLW) has become an increasingly popular parenting choice.
While BLW can provide a great chance for babies to explore new flavours and textures, this should only happen when they're developmentally ready — ideally, around six months of age. At this point in time, your baby should be able to sit up on their own, have good head and neck control, and make chewing motions with their gums. Meeting these milestones is necessary for them to progress in exploring solid foods.
There are countless benefits to applying BLW-based strategies, hence the popularity of this feeding method!
BLW supports both the physical and emotional health of your little one by allowing them to explore different textures and tastes of food at their own pace, so they are less likely to refuse them in the future.
Not only does this help develop their palate, but it also helps with early feeding skills like chopping, picking up food with fingers and scooping. This method enables babies to practice their self-feeding skills without relying on pre-mashed purees or spoon-fed meals.
As a parent, you can rest assured knowing that BLW gives your little one an easier time transitioning from breastfeeding or drinking formula to eating solids in a fun and safe manner.
Whatever approach you choose to take, the process of transitioning your little one from milk and formula to solid foods is an exciting one. Prepare for anything this journey might bring with the Spewy™ — a super absorbent burp cloth that makes dealing with reflux and gastro bugs a breeze.
One of the most important things to remember about being a parent is that you’re going to make mistakes — everybody does. It might take a little time to establish what type of parent you want to be and understand how your parenting style impacts your child’s behaviour and development.
With that in mind, the team here at Spewy™ is going to take a look at one of the most common styles of parenting — authoritative parenting — to help you understand the factors that influence how you interact with your child and how you can establish a positive relationship with them.
Most psychologists agree that there are four main parenting styles. Placed on a spectrum from the strictest to least involved, these are known as authoritarian, authoritative, permissive, and uninvolved. While authoritarian parents set strict rules for their children, uninvolved parents demonstrate detachment from their kids’ lives.
Authoritative parents sit somewhere in the middle. While they have firm expectations, they also place great emphasis on open communication and want to work alongside their children to make decisions in their best interests.
An authoritative parent is defined as one who nurtures their child and provides clear expectations without aggression or harsh punishments.
Using the power of positive reinforcement, authoritative parents may provide rules and limits that foster responsibility in their children. They may also encourage open dialogue so that children are able to make decisions for themselves. This creates a secure environment for learning as children become more independent and confident in their decision-making abilities.
Furthermore, an authoritative parenting style allows children to develop self-discipline as they learn to effectively manage their emotions and behaviour. By setting clear expectations and providing consistency, an authoritative parenting style creates a positive environment and respect within the family unit.
Authoritative parenting is a style of raising children that emphasises clear expectations, respect for the child's autonomy, and communication between parent and child.
There are several effects of this type of parenting; it can yield positive outcomes in academic performance, mental health, and self-esteem. By prioritising clear and open communication from a young age, you may also increase the likelihood of your child coming to you with problems when they get older.
All these factors combine to foster healthy development in the long term. While there will certainly be challenges along the way, parents should strive to create an environment where their children feel respected and supported.
As children respond differently to parenting styles, it’s not always useful to label one type of parenting as ‘good’ and another as ‘bad’. However, generally speaking, the traits that define an authoritative parent — including that they set clear boundaries while being nurturing and forgiving — will have a positive impact on any child’s development.
If you want to be an authoritative parent, the key is creating a balance between being firm and kind. Establishing rules, sticking to them, and providing guidance is important in order to create structure for your family.
When disciplining your children, it's important to be consistent and use positive reinforcement instead of punishment for ‘bad’ behaviours. For example, reward good behaviours with affection or praise rather than punishing mistakes. Letting your child know they are valued while still holding boundaries is vital in maintaining an authoritative parenting style.
An authoritative parenting style will also help foster healthy communication in the family by establishing trust and mutual respect in the relationship between parents and their children.
As parents ourselves, the team at Spewy™ are passionate about helping others navigate all the challenges that come with looking after little ones. In addition to our range of products, including the Spewy™, bed mats and travel packs our blog is full of helpful tips and advice for parents of newborns, toddlers, and children.
No two babies are alike — and the same could be said for their mums! Breastfeeding is a tandem effort, and the frequency and length of feedings will change as your baby grows.
Responsive feeding is a popular approach to feeding your little one that involves responding to their external cues to determine when they’re hungry and full rather than following a strict schedule.
It can take some time for you to learn these cues, particularly if your baby is in the newborn stage, but advocates of responsive feeding believe that the approach can foster a positive connection between parents and their children and kick-start a healthy relationship with food.
The answer to this question will depend entirely on the needs of your little one. Some babies prefer shorter feeds that are more frequent, while others respond better to longer feeds with greater breaks in between.
Another factor that impacts the length of time a feeding lasts is the age of your child. Generally speaking, newborns will need to be fed more often, which is known as cluster feeding. Cluster feeding is quite common and is normal behaviour for a baby — some mothers worry that it suggests they don’t have enough milk or that their little one is going hungry.
Cluster feeding can actually help to boost your milk supply. During this time, it’s important that you get enough rest, drink plenty of fluids and ensure you eat well to look after your own wellbeing.
Give yourself and your baby time to get into a feeding rhythm, with the knowledge that this will change as they get older.
It’s perfectly normal to experience difficulties breastfeeding, but it can cause stress and anxiety, particularly for first-time parents or those who have had no issues with previous kids.
The first thing to know is that there are many people who you can turn to for help. If you feel comfortable, consider asking friends and family members about their breastfeeding experience. Your GP or a community child health nurse can also provide professional advice and assistance.
You can even reach out to the Australian Breastfeeding Association for further information and support.
The decision to stop breastfeeding is always a difficult one, as for many parents, it represents an intimate bond between mum and bub.
Young babies may begin showing signs they are ready to move on from breastfeeding from six months of age, while some children may be satisfied with goat's milk formula or food supplements sooner than this.
Mums who notice a decrease in the flow of their milk might assume that their child is ready to wean, as well as those who have trouble nursing due to problems like mastitis.
If you are unsure whether now is the time to stop breastfeeding, it's a good idea to consult your doctor, keeping in mind that what worked for friends or family members may not be the best option for you and your little one.
Whatever the reason for ending breastfeeding, know that there are plenty of options out there you can try that will help your little one stay healthy and well-fed.
Ending breastfeeding can be a difficult transition for you and your baby, and it's a good idea to take the time to create a plan that works best for both of you.
Gradually reducing the number of feedings over time is a popular strategy that can help both mum and bub adjust to this change. Some mums also choose to express breastmilk and feed it to their little one in a bottle, which can help reduce any physical discomfort that can come with weaning.
Remember that continuing skin-to-skin contact with your baby is critical, even if you have stopped feeding. Doing so helps foster that special bond between mum and bub.
Parents choose to bottle feed their newborn for many different reasons. The first time you bottle feed, it might feel slightly awkward or uncomfortable for you and your little one. Keep these tips and tricks in mind to ensure the experience is as seamless as possible.
Begin by washing your hands before handling any supplies or bottle-feeding equipment, and make sure everything is appropriately sterilised. Check that both you and your baby are relaxed in an upright position to allow an easier flow of liquid. Gently hold the bottle at an angle that is comfortable for your bub, making sure the milk doesn't flow too quickly.
Always burp your baby after feedings, and make sure your Spewy™ is close at hand to clean up any spills!
If you're struggling to bottle feed your newborn, the first thing to do is try to avoid stressing about it. We understand this is easier said than done but know that heaps of mums and dads have been through this journey before, and there are plenty of solutions out there. The trick is just finding the right one!
Making sure your baby is comfortable during the process is crucial. Make sure their neck and head are supported by your arm and place a Spewy™ on your lap to catch any spills. Using a correct size teat will help prevent air ingestion, which can allow them to drink more milk and reduces the likelihood of an upset tummy!
If you still have difficulties bottle-feeding your little one, speak to your healthcare professional for specific advice and recommendations.
The answer to this question depends on a few factors, including your little one's level of hand-eye coordination and when you are planning to start incorporating food into their diet.
Regardless of when you plan to introduce solid foods, make sure you keep your Spewy™ around to quickly mop up the inevitable spew and spills that come with this transition!
Yes — plenty of parents choose to pump and bottle feed. Maybe their little one is having problems latching. Mum might be returning to work but still want to feed their newborn breast milk, or perhaps breastfeeding is causing them discomfort.
Whatever the case, exclusively pumping and bottle feeding is a choice made by many parents and won’t have any negative effects on your bub’s development or well-being.
For sure! Many parents choose to combine these two feeding methods, particularly if mum is heading back to work or having difficulties producing enough breast milk. You can use either expressed milk or formula, depending on the situation and the preferences of your baby.
There comes a time when all mums must start the process of weaning. Depending on your child’s age, you might transition from breastmilk to formula or solid foods.
Partial weaning, which is where you continue to breastfeed while introducing other sources of nutrients, is a great way of diversifying your your little one’s diet.
Ultimately, how you manage this transition will depend on your needs, your bub’s preferences and the advice of your doctor.
Whether you're a first-time parent or have been on this journey before, trying to find the right feeding technique or combination of strategies can be difficult. Throw in dirty nappies, gastro bugs and reflux, and you're set for countless sleepless nights!

Introducing solid foods to your infant marks a significant milestone on their journey to becoming independent eaters. Knowing when to make this transition is critical — while there’s no one single perfect time, guidelines exist to offer assistance to all parents, particularly those who are undergoing this journey for the first time.
Despite the fact that every baby is different, there does come a point in your little one’s life where nutritional variety becomes essential for their physical development.
Most parenting experts recommend waiting until around six months of age before introducing solids. Of course, before making any changes to your baby’s eating habits, it’s a good idea to consult with your doctor — particularly if you are a first-time parent.
There are a few key signs you can look out for that will indicate your little one is ready to start exploring the wonderful world of baby solids.
Keep in mind that as each baby is different, this is not an exhaustive list and should not be taken as the only indicator that it is time for solids. When in doubt, always consult your doctor.
Your baby may be ready for solids if:
We don’t need to tell parents that vomiting is all part and parcel of raising a baby. Unfortunately, the frequency of reflux may increase as you introduce new foods to their diet, depending on their digestive system.
The good news is that Spewy™ is here to help. Designed by parents for parents, the Spewy™ is much more than a burp cloth. Able to absorb up to two litres of liquid and with a waterproof backing, it’s a simple and effective way to deal with the inevitable baby vomit that comes after eating solids.
Plus, once your baby is done, simply throw the Spewy™ in the accompanying Wet Bag to pop in the washing machine later. Whether you’re at the park with friends or travelling in the car, the Spewy™ is soon to become your very best friend.
As expected, your baby’s poop will change after starting solids. After all, there’s now a wider variety of food in their digestive system.
Most likely, you will notice that their poo becomes thicker, changes colour, and is a lot smellier. They also might require nappy changes more frequently.
If you’re ever concerned about the appearance of your little one’s poop, speak to your doctor.
Introducing your baby to solid food is an exciting milestone for you and your little one. During this time, you’ll get to experience new foods and flavours together with your baby. Start slowly and gradually increase the amount and variety of foods as your child grows more accustomed to eating solids, and remember, the Spewy™ is here to help you with any problems along the way!
]]>The decision to use a midwife or a doula is a personal one and should be made following a lot of thought and discussion. As parents ourselves, the team at Spewy™ understands how important this choice is and has assembled a blog designed to bring together the essential information so you can make an informed decision.
A doula is a skilled, compassionate and knowledgeable professional companion who provides important emotional and physical support to individuals at all stages of life.
While most people know what a birth and postpartum doula is, end-of-life doulas also exist and can provide essential support to people whose life is coming to an end, as well as their family and friends.
A midwife is a healthcare professional who provides expert support and care during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. They collaborate closely with physicians and other medical professionals to ensure the best possible outcome for the mother and baby.
A birth doula sits by the side of a pregnant woman as she gives birth, offering advice on breathing techniques and body positions that may help relieve pain. A doula may also act as an advocate for you during labour and communicate with medical professionals about your preferred care options.
Keep in mind, however, that a doula has not received the same medical training as a doctor, nurse, or midwife.
The labour experience is different for each and every woman. Having an experienced doula at your side can provide emotional reassurance and confidence that labour is progressing as expected. Your doula will understand exactly what tools and resources you need at your side as you start and progress through labour. A Spewy™, for example, with its super-absorbant properties, could be perfect for the moment when your water breaks.
Throughout pregnancy, midwives can offer advice on nutrition, exercise, and labour preparation. During delivery, they help by providing physical comfort measures, in addition to coaching and calming the mother throughout labour.
After delivery, they provide postpartum care such as lactation assistance, mental health counselling, and infant care education to ensure both mothers and babies get off to a strong start.
The choice to use a doula or a midwife is a personal one and should be made following consultation with other people in your life who have previous experience with pregnancy or will be involved in the birthing process.
You might find you prefer the emotional support and extensive experience provided by a doula or feel more reassured working with a midwife.
Both offer invaluable resources for parents-to-be as they navigate pregnancy and labour; ultimately, which route one takes depends on individual needs.
In addition to choosing your birth care team, you’ll also need to think about what products you need on hand pre, during, and post-pregnancy to ensure everything runs as smoothly as possible.
The Spewy™ is a go-to item for parents of newborns, toddlers, and even primary-school-aged kids. After all, children of all ages are susceptible to vomiting! With its super absorbent properties and waterproof backing, the Spewy™ is a highly versatile product that can be used for everything from cleaning spew to mopping up your water breaking at the start of labour.
Once your little one is born, you’ll quickly realise that mess and spill is all a part of being a parent. The Spewy™ Bed Mat is another essential addition to your parenting arsenal, with its ability to effectively absorb nighttime accidents to reduce the need to change sheets and improve the quality of sleep.
Many mothers will tell you that you are never really prepared for labour and everything that follows. However, there’s no doubt that by doing your research and speaking with other mums and dads in your life, you’ll be in a much better position to make important decisions, like the choice between a midwife or a doula.
Being a parent comes with its fair share of challenges, from sleepless nights to cleaning up endless accidents and spills. The best way to prepare for anything the day brings is with a Spewy™.
]]>If you’re not exactly sure what the Spewy™ is or have been on the fence about making a purchase, read on to learn more with our essential guide to your Spewy™.
A Spewy™ is far more than an average burp cloth. It’s a practical and versatile product that can effectively deal with all types of liquid to ensure your little one (and you!) stay clean and dry.
The Spewy™ was developed by parents who knew that standard towels and cloths simply don’t cut it when it comes to tummy bugs and bedwetting. Made from a blend of microfibre and terry towelling, the unique combination of materials can absorb up to 2 litres of liquid, which is 7 times its own weight.
Everything we’ve covered so far is sure to appeal to parents. However, in developing the Spewy™, we knew the product had to interest children, too. As a result, the Spewy™ is available in a broad range of colourful patterns and designs. Whether your little one loves rainbows or bushland animals, there’s a Spewy™ they’ll love.
So you’ve managed to catch the spew; what do you do with the Spewy™ now? It’s simple — pop it straight into the accompanying Spewy™ Wet Bag, along with any soiled clothes! Once you’ve arrived home, you can throw everything straight into the washing machine. We’ve thought of everything when it comes to cleaning up spills in a stress-free manner.
The versatility of the Spewy™ burp cloth means there are countless benefits to one (or two) stored away in your handbag, car, or closet.
The Spewy™ should be your go-to product whenever your child is struck down by nausea and stomach pain. While they’re perfect for the car, you can also place the Spewy™ between your child and the surface they are resting on, be that a couch, their bed, or your lap. Doing so will prevent you from constantly having to shower and wash blankets, pillows, and cushions.
If there’s one thing that parenting teaches you, it is to expect the unexpected. It’s challenging to plan ahead when out and about, and you may be forced to change your little one in unforeseen locations. Having a Spewy™ tucked away in your bag can provide you with complete peace of mind that you have a safe and hygienic surface to change and clean your child.
Growing up involves plenty of accidents, many of which can’t be avoided. What can be dodged are soiled and stained surfaces. If your child hasn’t quite graduated from toilet training, place the Spewy™ underneath them when they’re strapped into the pram to ensure it stays clean and dry.
The Spewy™ is designed to be durable and long-lasting. You can extend its life and ability to absorb liquids effectively by caring for it correctly.
We know how busy parents are and so it was important to us that the care process for the Spewy™ be as simple as possible. Your Spewy™ can be cleaned in a washing machine (just be sure to remove any chunks of vomit beforehand) and may also be placed in the dryer on low heat. Wash your Spewy™ baby burp cloth after each use and avoid ironing it.

A Spewy™ bed mat does much more than protect your child’s mattress. Adding a bed mat to your little one’s bedroom setup can help them develop a positive relationship with sleep and also reduces the amount of time you’ll need to spend stripping soiled sheets — a win-win!
Read on to discover why you need a Spewy Bed Mat.
A good mattress can be expensive, and you no doubt want to take steps to protect your purchase. At the same time, as a parent, you no doubt understand that accidents happen all the time, and you can’t always prepare for what the day (or night) is going to throw at you.
Placing a Spewy™ bed mat on top of your child’s mattress is a simple strategy you can follow to protect it from stains and ensure the bed is a hygienic place for your little one to sleep.
It’s one thing to protect your mattress. It’s another entirely to make the process of cleaning up soiled sheets easy.
It’s unlikely there’s a parent out there who hasn’t found themselves stripping dirty sheets in the middle of the night. Doing so is very disruptive to your little one and impacts your own quality of sleep.
By placing a Spewy™ Bed Mat on top of the fitted sheet, you can protect the coverings underneath, meaning you don’t have to spend precious sleeping time removing soggy sheets.
Children can often become very upset when they wet the bed and may be reluctant to wake you up and explain what has happened. The alternative — that they spend the night lying in wet sheets — is not hygienic or conducive to good sleep.
The Spewy™ bed mat can help reduce feelings of anxiety and embarrassment associated with bed wetting. Your little one will know that solving the problem doesn’t require more than a quick strip of the bed protector mat rather than the entire process of removing and replacing sheets.
We’ve designed our bed mats to appeal to adults and children alike, which is why they’re available in a wide range of fun patterns. The only person who will love the Spewy™ bed mat more than you is your child!
We all know how important sleep is for children. Getting enough hours of rest every night is critical for their well-being and development. Unfortunately, there is a range of potential roadblocks that can prevent this from happening, including wetting the bed.
The less time you need to spend removing wet and soiled sheets, the more time they will have for sleeping!
Whether it’s a holiday house or their grandparent’s place, many children find sleeping in a new environment difficult. It can help to have something that reminds them of home and their own bed. A Spewy™ bed mat can be used as a portable comforter — not only will it protect the bed underneath, but it can reduce stress and encourage a good night’s sleep.
If you're struggling with the amount of laundry due to toilet training accidents, Spewy™ Bed Mats will be your best friend!
Bed pads are absorbent pads that you place on top of your child's bottom sheet. They protect the mattress from getting wet and make cleaning up a breeze. All you have to do is remove the Bed Mat and pop it straight in the machine. No more stripping the bed and dealing with wet sheets!
Here are a few reasons we recommend the Spewy™ Bed Mat:
The first reason Bed Mats are more hygienic is because they're more absorbent than regular sheets. If your child has an accident in the middle of the night, our Bed Mat will absorb up to two litres of the liquid and protect the mattress from getting stained. You can always wash the Bed Mat, but you might not be able to salvage the mattress if it gets ruined.
Another reason Bed Mats are more hygienic is that they're easier to clean than mattresses. Even if your child doesn't have an accident, there's a good chance their mattress will get dirty over time from things like sweat, skin cells, and dust mites. It's not always easy to clean a mattress, but you can easily throw a Bed Mat in the washing machine whenever it needs cleaning.
Accidents happen; it's just a part of the toilet training process and raising children. But we can help make this transition period easier for both you and your little one. Remaking a bed in the middle of the night is not a fun job which is why our Bed Mats are perfect for you.
Another reason to love these washable bed pads is that they're waterproof. This means that even if your child has an accident in the middle of the night, their bed will stay dry, resulting in less laundry for you and more rest for everyone involved!
Spewy ™ Bed Mats can be washed in the machine at most settings and placed in the dryer at a lower setting or can be hung out to dry for added convenience.
Bed Mats are an affordable way to provide extra comfort for your child. They’re also easy to use – simply place them over your child’s mattress, tuck the wings underneath, and you’ll be ready to go!
Spewy™ Bed Mats are constructed with a waterproof backing, terry towelling and microfibre. With a lovely collection of colourful prints to choose from, you can be sure your little one will love their new bed mat.
Bed protectors are typically made from materials that allow air to flow through them easily, keeping your bed cooler and preventing moisture from building up underneath your sheets. Mattress protectors, on the other hand, may be made from materials that block airflow, making a bed hotter and more uncomfortable.
A safe and dry bed is important for your child's physical safety, emotional well-being, and overall health. Investing in a quality Bed Mat now will save you money in the long run and help your child get the best possible night's sleep.

First things first, let's talk about baby burps. Just like adults, babies need to release gas from their stomachs so that they don't get too uncomfortable. And trust us, you don't want a gassy baby on your hands! The best way to deal with a burping baby is to keep a baby burp cloth handy at all times. That way, when your little one lets out a big burp, you can quickly clean them up without having to change their clothes.
Here are a few ways you can use your Spewy™ burping cloth:
One of the most common uses for burp cloths is, of course, burping your baby. After a feed, you'll want to hold your little one upright against your shoulder and gently pat their back until they let out a burp. (Trust us, you'll know when they do!) Having a burp cloth handy will help protect your clothes from any spit-up that might happen during the burping process.
There are a few different ways to burp your baby and which you choose will depend on your own preferences as well as your baby's. The most important thing is to be gentle — you don't want to startle or hurt your little one. Here are some of the most popular methods:
Probably the most common way to burp a baby! Simply hold your baby against your chest with their head over your shoulder and pat them softly on the back until they burp. This is where the burping cloth comes in —to protect your clothes!
Some parents prefer to do this while standing, while others find it more comfortable to sit down. Whichever way you choose, make sure you support your baby's head and neck so they are comfortable and secure.
Another popular method is to place your baby on your lap. Face them away from you and support their head and neck with one hand while patting their back with the other. You can also try gently rubbing their back in a circular motion if patting doesn't seem to be doing the trick.
When it comes to bed protection for toddlers, many parents turn to traditional plastic or waterproof liners. But did you know that the Spewy™ can also provide an effective barrier against nighttime accidents? Not only are they soft and gentle on sensitive skin, but they can also be easily washed and replaced as needed.
Simply lay a burping cloth on the changing table or any surface you're using, and it will provide an extra barrier against leaks or accidents. Since the Spewy™ burp cloth is made of absorbent materials - terry towelling and microfibre, it’ll quickly soak up any and all spills. Best of all, burp cloths are lightweight and portable, making them ideal for on-the-go diaper changes. ]]>More than just a simple burp cloth, the Spewy™ is versatile and makes tackling the slips and spills that come with raising a young child easy.
As any new mum will quickly learn, burp cloths are an essential part of baby care. Not only do they help to protect your clothes from spills, but they also provide a soft and absorbent surface for a burping baby.
In addition, the best burp cloths will be designed in a manner that ensures they can be used for a variety of other purposes, including wiping away spew and cleaning up accidents. With so many uses, it's no wonder that burp cloths are a must-have for any new mum.
Of course, not all burp cloths are created equal. When choosing a burp cloth, look for one that is made from soft and absorbent material. You'll also want to make sure that the burp cloth is large enough to soak up a fair amount of liquid. And finally, be sure to choose a burp cloth with a cute and colourful design — after all, you and your little one will no doubt spend a lot of time looking at it!
In short, when choosing a burp cloth, be sure to choose a Spewy™! Our products have been designed by parents for parents and are practical, versatile, and fun. Your Spewy™ will come complete with a waterproof bag, so you can quickly and efficiently deal with spills before storing the dirty burp cloth away to be cleaned later.
We know that new parents have a lot on their hands and strive to make life just that little bit easier with the Spewy™.
A Spewy™ is not only practical, but it's also extremely versatile. While you can use your Spewy™ as a traditional burp cloth, there are plenty of other handy applications for it, too.
If you've got a long car trip planned, your Spewy™ should be the very first thing you pack. Simply place over your child's lap to allow the layers of microfibre and terry towelling to absorb vomit effectively. The waterproof backing will ensure your child and their car seat stay vomit-free!
If your child has picked up a vomiting bug at daycare or school, the Spewy™ will quickly become your very best friend. If you have a young child and they're resting on your lap, slip the Spewy™ underneath their head to safeguard your own clothing.
Alternatively, if your kid is a little bit older and lying on the couch or in bed, lay the burp cloth under their head to protect these surfaces. It can also double as a comforter for them, which is why it's a great idea to have your child pick out their favourite design from our website. They'll soon love their Spewy™ as much as you do!
The Spewy™ absorbs all types of liquid, meaning it can also be a valuable tool when toilet training. Slip it under your child while they're strapped in their pram for peace of mind, or even use it as a change mat when you're out and about. The accompanying waterproof bag makes clean-up for hardworking parents easy — simply throw your Spewy™ into the bag to attend to when you've got a few spare seconds on your hands!
The answer to this question depends on a couple of factors, including how many children you have and what you're planning to use your Spewy™ for.
If your little ones are prone to car sickness and you've got a long road trip planned, it's not a bad idea to invest in a few Spewy's™ for practicality and peace of mind. If your child is quite young and you're trying to manage to change their nappy while dealing with burping and spit-ups from feeding, you'll probably want more than one Spewy™ on your hands.
The good news is that we offer a variety of different Spewy™ pack sizes to suit the unique requirements of all our customers. Our signature Spewy™ is available in individual units or as a 3-pack, depending on how many kids you have and what their needs are.
If you've never tried a Spewy™ before, you might want to consider the Spewy™ starter pack. Containing 2 Spewy's™ plus a Wet Bag for easy clean-up, it includes everything you need to make your life just that little bit easier.
Those planning to use their Spewy™ burp cloth to help with night-time accidents might want to check out our range of bed mats. Made from the same super-soft and absorbent material as the Spewy™, the bed mat can absorb up to 2 litres of liquid and comes complete with waterproof backing to ensure nothing leaks through to the sheets or mattress underneath.
The versatility of the Spewy™ means you can use the one burp cloth for multiple purposes, which is great news for hardworking and time-poor parents!
As a parent, you never know what the next day will bring. Staying prepared is easy with a burp cloth from Spewy™!

A baby travel bag is a custom-built bag designed to help busy mums and dads in a simple but effective way.
How often have you been out and about — on holiday or even just a day trip with friends — and found your outing has been cut short by an upset tum or accidental toilet trip? Or perhaps the simple thought of these mishaps prevents you from enjoying the moment?
Either way, the team at Spewy™ are passionate about ensuring hardworking and selfless parents aren’t distracted from creating holiday memories. We believe our baby travel bag — packed with the essentials — is a must-have for families of all shapes and sizes.
Even the most organised parents can forget an important item or two, particularly when juggling everything life throws at you. The purpose of a baby travel bag is to take the worry and stress out of packing for your trip, which is very important given that a holiday is meant to be relaxing!
Spewy’s™ range of baby travel bags is designed to cover every possible mishap, even the ones you haven’t thought of. As parents ourselves, we know that babies and toddlers can be more than unpredictable. Carrying a baby travel bag with you ensures you’re prepared for the unpreparable — from bed-wetting to car sickness.
Rather than gathering individual cloths and protective sheets, simply grab the Spewy™ Travel Bag from your top shelf and put it straight in the car. One simple step to tick off your to-do list!
There are a few must-have items in any baby travel bag that will ensure you’re prepared for the accidents that are all part and parcel of growing up.
If you’re planning to stay overnight in an unfamiliar location, a bed mat is a must-have for babies, toddlers, and young children alike. Even if your child is past the age of bed-wetting, a new environment often provokes anxiety that can lead to night-time accidents.
Avoid the night-time need to peel off soggy sheets by fitting your child’s bed with a waterproof bed mat. Spewy’s™ range of Bed Mats can absorb up to 2 litres of liquid and come with waterproof backing, meaning you won’t have to spend your holiday worrying about any damage done to the mattress underneath!
No baby travel pack is complete without an absorbent cloth or two, particularly if you’re planning a road trip. Take it to the next level with the Spewy™, our practical and hygienic product that can absorb up to 2 litres of liquid. No need for a bucket or vomit bag; the Spewy™ is a versatile solution that will save you time and allow you to turn your attention to enjoying precious holiday memories.
We offer two baby travel packs — the Just In Case and the Well Prepared — both of which contain bed mats and the iconic Spewy™.
We haven’t forgotten about parents!
The aim of any baby travel bag is to take the stress out of packing, which is why the Spewy™ Travel Bags come complete with a reusable Travel Checklist. Simply tick off each item as you pack it to remove the hassle of preparing for your next trip. Think of it as a gift to yourself!
Depending on the age of your child and your personal needs, you might also choose to include nursing pads, sanitary items, sunscreen, and a small first-aid kit in your travel bag.
Holidays are an incredibly special time for young and growing families. Give yourself the chance to focus on what’s important by investing in a baby travel bag from Spewy™.
]]>Follow these tips to make sure you have everything covered for your next family getaway.
Check the car before you leave, things like oil, water and tyres. Make sure that you’re Roadside Assistance hasn’t expired and you have those details handy. I couldn’t imagine anything worse than being broken down on the side of the road with our 3 kids in the car!
A couple of days before you leave start to write down a list of things to do/pack. Leave it in the kitchen and as you think of things, write them down straight away.
Pick a family friendly location where there is lots of things for the kids to do. Caravan parks and motels often have pools and the bigger ones have waterslides and play areas/equipment. Choose a safe and central area that’s close to local attractions, food outlets, beach and park. Preferably within walking distance. Get the kids to help choose where you’re going to stay or what you’ll do when you’re there, it will help them get excited!
Plan your trip, especially the longer ones. Every couple of hours stop and let the kids out to have a run around, stretch their legs and have a toilet break.
Places like the park, swimming pool (depending on how much time you’ve got) or local attractions are great. Once you’re all back in the car get the kids busy with a book, drawing, toy or a movie.
If you can, sit in the back with them and join in with what they’re doing, they will love it! You know the saying ‘it isn’t the destination but the journey’ It’s so true! Remember to slow down and take it all in and enjoy these moments as a family.
When we travel with our girls, I have a bag for each of them in there I put, snacks, a water, toys, ipad, colouring in, books etc. Things to keep them entertained. I usually like to get them something new such as an activity pad or something similar for the trip away as well.
To keep them comfortable in the car, we pop a suitcase or something similar under their legs so their feet can rest on it.
Check for family deals. When booking always ask for specials or family discount rates. Some places offer free meals for children as well. If you can book outside of peak times, it will be quieter on the roads and cheaper for your budget.
Last but not least, make sure that you have packed some Spewy's, Wet Bags and Bed Mats!
After all family holidays are all about making memories, not cleaning up spew and washing wet sheets!
Whether it's for a weekend away or the whole week, we have you covered with our Travel Packs. Choose from either 'Just in Case' or 'Well Prepared'
Stick our free Travel Checklist onto your fridge and mark off as you pack!
Whether it's for reflux, a vomiting bug or the car, the Spewy will be right there when you need it most. The Spewy can absorb up to 2 litres of liquid and with the waterproof backing, nothing will leak through, we have you covered, Literally!
Using the Spewy™ Bed Mat insures that if your child does have an accident during the night, all you need to do is replace the Spewy™ Bed Mat with a clean one rather than having to fully change the bed sheets at 2am in the morning!
But stick with us as we've compiled our top tips to help make this experience for both you and your child a rewarding and positive transition from nappies to undies 🥳
Wait until your child shows sign of wanting to use the toilet, or is interested in what you are doing on the toilet. This is usually around 2-3 years of age. It will make the whole process a lot easier and less stressful if you work with your child rather than forcing them when they are not ready. Signs that your child may be ready are, them telling you that they need to do a wee/poo, having a dry nappy for longer than usual, interested in the potty/toilet or pulling at a wet nappy.
This is easier in summer than winter but while you’re at home, let them run around in undies rather than nothing, this way if they have an accident, they will know the feeling of being wet. Yes, it may be more cleaning up in the short term but hey, parenthood is messy!
It's entirely up to you whether to start with a potty or go straight to the toilet. We started our 3 girls all on a potty only because it was the easiest for them. A potty is easy to move around and some children may find it less scary than a toilet. On the other hand a toilet is where they see mum and dad going. Regardless of what you use, you'll need a step. A step is a great way for children to be able to climb up onto the toilet and rest their feet on and to also reach the basin to wash their hands. It helps them to feel more independent.
Make it a fun experience, whether it be a reward or sticker chart, encourage and praise them when they go to the toilet. When we were toilet training our middle child, we had to send her father a picture of the poo that she had just done!! I think it was the proudest moment of her little life.
When you are brave enough to venture out with undies on your child, make sure that you have a couple of spare pairs and a wetbag so that if there is an accident, you have somewhere to put the wet clothes. Always get them to have a try on the toilet before leaving the house.
Be consistent! Constantly ask if they need to go to the toilet and put them on to have a try. You may find that at the beginning they sit there and not do anything for a while because it’s a new experience but eventually they will want to do their business and hop off.
Setbacks and accidents will happen. If your child gets upset that they've had an accident, reassure them that it's ok and that there's no need to worry. Try to get your child to the toilet as soon as they've said that they need to go. When they've been playing for an extended period of time, ask if they want to have a try on the toilet, they may be too busy and have forgotten they need to go.
It can take toilet-trained children months or even years to become dry at night. When you notice that your child is waking consistently with a dry nappy, that's an indication that they are ready to transition to undies or pull ups.
To help manage night time training, we recommend using a Spewy™ Bed Mat.
The Spewy™ Bed Mat covers where your child lays on the bed, it's made the same as the Spewy™ so it can absorb up to 2 litres and has a waterproof backing so nothing will leak through onto the mattress. It sits on top of the bottom sheet and has wings that tuck under the mattress to help keep it in place.
The advantage of using a Spewy™ Bed Mat is that if your child does have an accident during the night, all you need to do is replace the Spewy™ Bed Mat with a clean one rather than having to fully change the bed sheets at 2am in the morning!

Unfortunately, nearly 7 in 10 babies will experience reflux at some point. Reflux isn’t just a little spew here and there, it’s gut wrenching!
It's endless screaming, never sleeping, holding baby 24/7, constant feeding, changing of spewy clothes and the overwhelming feeling of helplessness. Although it feels like it, it won't last forever! We promise.
We’ve compiled 7 top tips to help soothe your baby’s reflux symptoms.
Avoid clothing and nappies that are too tight. Apart from bub being more comfortable in looser fitting clothing, it will help reduce the amount of pressure put on your baby’s tummy. Pack a few extra changes of clothes for bub when you are going out and a Wet Bag to place the spewy clothes into. Try and wear white, whites won’t show milk stains as harshly and are a clever way to hide spit-up or spew.
Consider changing bub's nappy before feeding. This will avoid the necessity of lying your baby down when he has a tummy full of milk. Give smaller, more frequent feeds with bub upright. This will be easier on bubs stomach and will help decrease reflux as there’s less to regurgitate. After feeding try and keep your baby upright for at least 30 minutes, it will help prevent the food from travelling upward into the oesophagus.
By frequently burping your baby, you will keep the air that is gulped into the stomach during a feed to a minimum, thereby reducing the volume of milk that may be vomited. Laying a Spewy™ over your shoulder whilst burping will stop the spew from going all over your clothes.
Keep your baby quiet after feeds and avoid bouncing them around. Instead, think about reading them a story or having sensory play.
Massage can be soothing to babies and children, and it can also aid digestion. You can't directly contact the organ that causes reflux, however the massage stimulates baby's nervous system including the Vagus nerve which controls many aspects of the digestive system. Check out your local area for baby massage classes.
If you formula feed, consider using a thickening agent to help decrease the amount of milk coming back up the oesophagus. If you're breastfeeding, it's best to avoid eating foods that may pass through your breast milk and upset your baby. These can include: spicy foods, caffeine, fatty foods, dairy products.
You are your baby's world! And they are bloody hard work! So you need to remember to look after you, so you can look after them. Take time out for yourself, whether it’s hoping in the shower for 5 minutes when your partner gets home or asking for help from family and friends when you need it. Remember to take one day at a time.
